This project consists of resurfacing and related work on Route 9 in the towns of Northborough, Shrewsbury, and Westborough. \u00a0The total length of this project is approximately 6.2 miles. The work primarily includes Quality Control micromilling and resurfacing using Quality Assurance Specifications for Hot Mix Asphalt Pavement.<\/p>\n
The roadway shall be micromilled 2 1\/2 inches and paved with 1 \u00bd inches of HMA Surface Course Asphalt Rubber Gap Graded (HMA-SCARGG) over 1 \u00bd inches of HMA Intermediate Course \u2013 Asphalt Rubber Gap Graded (HMA-ICARGG).<\/p>\n
The ARGG pavement utilizes both reclaimed vulcanized rubber and reclaimed asphalt pavement. The reclaimed vulcanized rubber is produced primarily from the processing of automobile and truck tires which is blended with the liquid asphalt binder. The specifications call for the blended binder to contain a minimum of 15% of reclaimed rubber. Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is obtained primarily from milling the existing roadway pavement. The specifications allow for up 10% of the aggregate (stone) in the ARGG pavement to be RAP.<\/p>\n
The bridge decks will be micromilled and paved with 2 \u00bd inches of Superpave Bridge Protective Course \u2013 12.5 (SPC-12.5).<\/p>\n
Related work includes: stormwater improvements; minor box widening; replacing all catch basin grates with hook-lock grates; resetting granite curb and edging; replacing existing guardrail to meet current standards; replacing sections of median barrier; drainage improvements; slope stabilization; sidewalk reconstruction; and new signs and pavement markings.<\/p>\n
The stormwater drainage improvements were designed to mitigate the effects of impervious highway cover and\/or meet applicable Waste Load Allocations cited in various TMDL reports in accordance with MassDOT\u2019s Impaired Waters Program. Work performed at various sites along Milk Street in Westborough and Route 9 in Westborough included construction of stormwater best management practices (BMP\u2019s), proposed drainage pipe, proposed drainage structures and existing drainage structure modifications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
