J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. (Lynch) was contracted by the Narragansett Bay Commission to perform the construction of Macomber Stadium in Central Falls, RI. This project generally consisted of the construction of a synthetic turf athletic field and green stormwater infrastructure (GSI). The work included demolition and preparation of the site, grading, construction of an underground infiltration system and other GSI best management practices (BMP\u2019s), construction of a new infilled synthetic turf system, stormwater systems, fencing, retaining walls, sidewalks, and paving. Experience from several elements of this project will directly improve Lynch\u2019s ability to deliver the Waste Management Newport Transfer Station Project.<\/p>\n
The Macomber Stadium project demonstrates Lynch\u2019s ability to work with contaminated soils, install a Cultec underground infiltration system, and successfully partner with Housing Systems, Inc. (H.S.I.). A preliminary soil investigation identified soil contaminates on the existing Macomber Stadium, making the field unusable for recreation. Upon receiving the notice to proceed, Lynch developed an extensive soil testing plan, applied to local landfills for disposal, and performed the load and haul of contaminated soils to the respective landfills. Lynch\u2019s team of OSHA 40 HAZWOPER trained employees are familiar with working around contaminated soils, requirements of a remedial action work plan, and capping \/ clean fill requirements for site completion..<\/p>\n
After subgrade was achieved, Lynch installed an 800+ unit Cultec system. All washed aggregate was manufactured at Lynch\u2019s Cumberland, RI quarry. Approximately $520,000 in cast-in-place concrete was subcontracted to H.S.I. on this project. All concrete passed quality control measures, contributing to a successful project which provided the City of Central Falls with a premier sports facility.
