15 acres of tree clearing, demolition of a former Railroad Bridge overt Rte. 2 and construction of a new pre-fabricated truss bridge over Rte. 2. Performed over 12,000 CY of excavation and paved 6,000 tons of HMA pavement on a 4 mile rail trail.

MassDOT and the Cities of Leominster and Fitchburg constructed a
shared-use trail along an abandoned railroad corridor from its intersection with the Main St. / North Main St. / Mill St. / Tremaine St. intersection in Leominster to First St. in Fitchburg for a length of 4 miles. The purpose of this Project is to provide safer and improved transportation access for bicycle users and pedestrians.

This project consists of the construction of a shared-use trail facility for bicycle and pedestrian users via the former railroad corridor and the work includes Clearing, Grading, HMA and Concrete pavement, Planting, Pavement markings and other trail amenities. Two prefabricated steel truss bridges were constructed on Meachnically Stabilied retaining wall abutments. Bridge #L-08-023 carries the trail over the 4 lane highway Rte. 2, and another Bridge #L-08-088 carried the trail over an unnamed stream.
