Lynch performed excavation, full depth construction, pavement milling and paving, removal of existing and installation of new vertical granite curb, sidewalk installation or reconstruction, cement concrete island installation, handicap wheelchair ramp construction, retaining wall construction, drainage repairs and installation, providing and spreading loam borrow and seed, installation of traffic signal equipment, traffic signing and pavement markings, traffic control management and other street improvements.<\/p>\n

The traffic signal work consisted of the installation of a complete and functioning traffic control signal system with vehicle detectors, video detection, signal posts, signal heads, spanwire assemblies, cabinets, foundations, pull boxes, electric hand-holes and service connections. Included in the signal system was a provision for emergency vehicle preemption and protected pedestrian crossings.<\/p>\n

This work was performed in multiple phases on the six-lane road classified as an Urban Principal Arterial highway and accommodated a traffic volume of 53,000 vehicles per day.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest challenges was the replacement of\u00a0 two 16\u201d water gate valves that were located underneath an existing 24\u201d high pressure steel gas main in the middle of the intersection. This work was done working around the clock on two consecutive weekends. This work was expected to require a water shutdown starting on Friday night and restoring water by 5 AM on Monday morning. Multiple Lynch crews worked in back-to-back shifts and the water was restored on Saturday afternoon.
