Sterling’s American Revolution Memorial can be found on the town common on Main Street. Dedicated in the year of the nation’s bicentennial, the memorial expresses gratitude to the Chocksett residents who fought for the nation’s independence from Britain.
At the time of the country’s founding, Chocksett was a parish of Lancaster. After it formally separated in 1781, the area was incorporated as the Town of Sterling. Sterling’s local Patriots receive recognition in the words inscribed on the memorial’s plaque:
1776 – 1976
