In response to the question, “Where are the remains of those who fell in the battle?,” Lexington’s Committee on Monuments and Tablets placed a slate tablet at the foot of the Revolutionary War Monument erected on the town common in 1799 with information about those who were reinterred there in 1835.
The inscription reads:
THE REMAINS OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE
BATTLE OF LEXINGTON, WERE BROUGHT
HERE FROM THE OLD CEMETERY, APRIL 20,
1835, AND BURIED WITHIN THE RAILING IN
THE FRONT OF THIS MONUMENT.
