The inscription on the Meriam’s Corner Monument reads:
THE BRITISH TROOPS
RETREATING FROM THE
OLD NORTH BRIDGE
WERE HERE ATTACKED IN FLANK
BY THE MEN OF CONCORD
AND NEIGHBORING TOWNS
AND DRIVEN UNDER A HOT FIRE
TO CHARLESTOWN
A granite monument set within the stone wall at Meriam’s Corner marks the starting point of the running battle on April 19, 1775. Originally sited on land owned by Thomas and Rose Burke, a legal agreement cedes ownership and maintenance of the monument to Concord.
