In 2017, the Town of Boxborough established a committee to, "recommend to the town projects and practices that serve as appropriate tributes to the service of Boxborough Veterans and their families." The following year work to create a Veterans Tribute along the entrance road to Albert J. Sargent Memorial Library began with relocating the town's World War I Memorial to the site.
On November 11, 2021, the town held its annual Veterans' Day ceremonies and officially dedicated the new Boxborough Veterans Tribute in honor of those who serve in the five branches of the United States military.
The names of Boxborough residents who have died in military service to their country are engraved into a smooth granite block. Luther Blanchard, a fifer in Captain Isaac Davis’s company and reportedly the first man shot at the Battle of Concord, is the sole name listed under Revolutionary War.
A bronze plaque affixed to the granite memorial is inscribed with sentiments of the townspeople:
WE HONOR BOXBOROUGH VETERANS
WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY
DURING WARTIME AND IN PEACE.
WE PAY GRATEFUL TRIBUTE
TO THOSE MEN, WOMEN, AND THEIR FAMILIES
FOR THEIR SACRIFICES AND DEDICATION.
MAY THIS PLACE GIVE US ALL
AN OPPORTUNITY TO REFLECT
ON THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS WE ENJOY
AS CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
