Gifted by the Bolton Historical Society in 1976, the monument recognizes over four hundred brave residents who fought for the country\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n<p>The text on the plaque reads:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">IN GRATEFUL MEMORY<br \/>\nOF THE 402 MEN<br \/>\nOF BOLTON<br \/>\nWHO RISKED THEIR LIVES<br \/>\nFOR THE FREEDOM OF OUR COUNTRY<br \/>\n1775\u00a0 \u2014 \u2014 1783<br \/>\nERECTED BY<br \/>\nBOLTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY INC.<br \/>\n1976<\/p>\n<p>Though Bolton was a rural, agrarian community in the years leading up to the Revolution, its townsfolk were no less invested in the war effort. Hundreds of local men, many of whom were humble farmers answered the call to arms. Some of these soldiers were laid to rest in Bolton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/place\/bolton-old-south-burying-ground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Old South Burying Ground<\/a> and the Pan Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>The extant documentation for the majority of the town\u2019s soldiers is limited, with some notable exceptions.
