The rearguard of British regulars was peppered with Patriot musket fire from the high ground as militia rushed into the valley before <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/place\/fiske-hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiske Hill<\/a>. As local historian Frank Coburn recounted, \u201cMany British were wounded, and many killed, along this part of Battle Road. A little way from the bluff, over the wall on the opposite side of the road and in a southerly direction, are graves of two.\u201d Those graves are now marked with a stone and plaque placed by the National Park Service as part of the 2000 Battle Road Trail project in <a href=\"https:\/\/freedomsway.org\/place\/minute-man-national-historical-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minute Man National Historical Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This marker&#8217;s inscription reads:<i> <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Near Here Is Buried<br \/>\nA British Soldier<br \/>\nApril 19, 1775<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe Bluff,\u201d as this sharp outcropping of rocky hillside on the western edge of Lexington is known, was the site of further fighting on April 19, 1775.
