A Legacy of

Innovation

LeMessurier Through the Decades

William LeMessurier (1926-2007) embodied a
lifelong passion for innovation.

A visionary at the vanguard of the structural engineering profession, Bill, as he was known to friends, family, and colleagues, was also a licensed architect and a lecturer to both engineers at MIT and architects at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. At his core, Bill was an educator with a passion for structures formed through the fundamental principles of engineering. Through this perspective, he worked to connect the worlds of architecture and engineering and bring them together in wonderful ways.

The collaborative relationships Bill developed with architects while in pursuit of this endeavor were the basis of his professional firm and eventually became the catalyst for his most dramatic work in the field of structural engineering. Recently, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine published a Memorial Tribute to Bill in recognition of his outstanding contributions as both a practicing engineer and an educator.
