AXA Tower
Originally constructed for the Singapore Treasury with architecture designed to invoke a stack of coins, AXA Tower is the tallest cylindrical tower in the world and it delivers 360-degree panoramic views of Singapore at every level. The simple, yet elegant structural solution to eliminate perimeter columns and achieve unobstructed views was to cantilever steel beams at every floor from an inner cylindrical concrete core enclosing the elevators and other utilities. Steel ties concealed in the curtain wall reduce relative deflections between floors while a continuous perimeter ring truss limits deflections at the cantilever ends. Demolition of the building was completed in 2023 after 37 years standing to make way for a new skyscraper. Ingenious, tall, one of a kind. Regardless of the description, it's a building that will be missed.
