To accommodate increasing demand for inpatient space on campus, several outpatient clinics were identified for relocation to off campus leased facilities. The second floor of One Hundred Oaks Mall (OHO) was already leased by Vanderbilt Health to offer various medical specialties to local communities 20 minutes from the main hospital. Construction of a new primary care clinic at OHO for VUMC’s internal medicine program allowed a floor at the main campus to be converted into 30 new inpatient beds. In addition, the relocation resulted in the expansion of the residency program and continued shift of outpatient services off campus.

The new Internal Medicine clinic at OHO was completed in 2019 with 48 exam rooms arranged in 4 pods of 12 same-handed rooms. Each pod has a treatment room, intake areas, and provider workrooms. Each pair of exam pods share reception, patient support spaces, and staff support areas. All 4 pods are connected together via corridors at the front and rear of the clinic to accommodate multidisciplinary services and flexible provider schedules.
