The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is one of the 12 academic health centers chosen to comprise the initial consortium funded through the National Institute of Health’s Clinical and Translational Science Awards. With the award of this prestigious NIH grant, the URMC is equipped to begin the programming and planning of a new Clinical and Translational Sciences Building (CTSB). We were selected for the programming and planning effort for a new 150,000 GSF building to become the hub for the growing Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI).

The scope of the programming and planning included a comprehensive site analysis; an existing campus utilities investigation; preliminary building engineering concept options for state-of-the-art energy efficiency; an exterior design conception; and the development of construction budgets for the different scenarios. The building program consists of computational and other “dry” research programs. In addition to office cubicle space, there is a significant community component, including outpatient clinic space for community research subjects and public seminar and conferencing capabilities. DBPA worked closely with URMC leadership and faculty to finalize occupants, space allocation, and site selection.
