The Hillsboro Medical Group is a primary care clinic that was identified for relocation to leased facilities near Vanderbilt University Medical Center to provide additional inpatient space at the main hospital. Only a block away, the Village at Vanderbilt (VaV) building was already leased by VUMC for different types of clinical services. Construction of new primary care space at VaV for the Hillsboro Medical Group clinic allowed a floor at the MCE building, which is connected to the hospital, to be converted into 30 new inpatient beds. The relocation and renovation project continues the national trend of shifting lower acuity patient services, such as outpatient clinics, off campus to permit the expansion of higher acuity programs on campus.

The new Hillsboro Medical Group clinic was completed in 2019 with a total of 24 exam rooms. 12 single handed rooms are located on either side of a central reception and waiting room, allowing patients to enter and exit at both ends. The clinic, a former physicians practice, serves mostly older patients who are making return visits. Each doctor’s private office is located adjacent to their exam rooms to accommodate private consultations with their patients if necessary.
